Dr Rayson Lee Rui Sheng and Tan Li Ming on Trial for MDMA Consumption at Sentosa Party
SINGAPORE — Two men, Dr Rayson Lee Rui Sheng (35) and Tan Li Ming (28), are standing trial at the State Courts for allegedly consuming MDMA—commonly known as ecstasy—at a party held in 2023 at a Sentosa hotel villa.
The party, held at Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa on the night of August 8 and into the early hours of August 9, was raided by police at approximately 5:40 a.m. on August 9, following reports of drug-related activity. A total of 49 men were arrested during the raid, which uncovered substances including ecstasy and ketamine, along with drug paraphernalia.
Dr Lee and Tan each face one charge of consuming a controlled drug on or before August 9, 2023. The offense carries a prison term ranging from one to ten years and a fine of up to S$10,000 (US$7,800).
Both men submitted two urine samples and one hair sample during investigations. The Health Sciences Authority found MDMA in all samples, with the hair samples also testing positive for ketamine.
Deputy Public Prosecutors Jocelyn Teo and Dhiraj G Chainani explained that under Section 22 of the Misuse of Drugs Act, there is a statutory presumption that both men consumed MDMA unless they can prove otherwise.
Neither Dr Lee nor Tan disputed the legitimacy of their urine samples. Their defense, led by lawyer Tania Chin, faces the task of rebutting the presumption of drug consumption based on the evidence.
The trial began on July 15, 2025, and is expected to continue with further hearings scheduled throughout the month.
