FRANKLIN, Ind. — Dr. Derrick Hasenour, a 44-year-old physician with Windrose Health Network, was arrested Friday following a joint drug operation conducted by the Franklin Police Department and the federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
Authorities say Hasenour, of Greenwood, was apprehended in the act of purchasing 30 Oxycodone pills — which he had previously prescribed — from a confidential informant. The transaction took place in the parking lot of a Rural King store in Greenwood and had been prearranged and closely monitored by investigators.
Hasenour now faces four preliminary charges, including two counts of dealing in a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, and prescription fraud, according to Johnson County jail records.
The arrest follows a broader investigation into claims that Hasenour had been repeatedly prescribing controlled substances like Fentanyl and Oxycodone to patients and then buying the drugs back from them. According to police, the informant involved in the sting stated such exchanges occurred about 50 times.
After his arrest, Hasenour reportedly admitted to authorities that he had been addicted to opioids for nearly a year. He acknowledged purchasing pills from multiple patients and communicating with them through his personal phone. He also admitted that he had planned to purchase additional pills from another individual later that same day.
Officers recovered 45 Oxycodone pills from Hasenour’s possession, totaling 5.6 grams of a Schedule II controlled substance.
Hasenour served as assistant medical director at Windrose Health Network and practiced family medicine with a specialty in obstetrics at the company’s Franklin location. Windrose has not yet commented on the arrest.
According to his professional biography, Hasenour is a graduate of the University of Southern Indiana and the Indiana University School of Medicine. He is affiliated with the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Indiana Academy of Family Physicians.
The investigation remains ongoing.
