Dr. Ameet Vohra, Firm Accused of $300M Medicare Fraud Scheme

Feds Say Wound Care Company Filed Thousands of False Claims

MIAMI, Fla. — Dr. Ameet Vohra, founder of Vohra Wound Physicians Management LLC, along with VHS Holdings P.A., has been accused of orchestrating a massive Medicare fraud scheme involving more than 165,000 false claims, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida announced April 4.

According to federal prosecutors, Vohra and his companies falsely billed Medicare for high-level surgical wound procedures that were unnecessary or never performed. The government alleges Vohra’s custom-built software was designed to automatically upcode all debridement treatments as high-paying surgical procedures, even when routine cleanings were performed.

The system reportedly inserted fake clinical justifications to back the inflated billing and excluded lower-cost care options, making it difficult for physicians to code procedures accurately. Many of the physicians, prosecutors say, lacked proper wound care training and were misled into relying on the faulty system.

Moreover, the complaint claims Vohra pressured his physicians with revenue-based quotas and disciplined them for failing to meet surgical procedure targets. Over time, the group submitted thousands of repeated claims for the same wounds—far beyond what is medically accepted.

The scheme allegedly allowed Vohra to avoid billing facilities directly by misclassifying services to appear eligible for Medicare reimbursement, generating over $300 million in company distributions from 2019 to 2023.

“This office is committed to protecting our nation’s seniors and the important federal programs that support them,” said U.S. Attorney Hayden O’Byrne, vowing continued pursuit of those who exploit public funds for private gain.

Federal officials emphasize that the claims are allegations only and no determination of liability has yet been made.
