In a significant breakthrough, the West Siang Police’s Anti-Drug Squad has dismantled a major drug trafficking syndicate operating across West Siang and Pasighat. The operation, which involved the use of digital payment platforms like QR codes and Customer Service Points (CSP), made it difficult for authorities to detect illicit financial transactions.
The investigation stemmed from two narcotics cases registered at Aalo Police Station (case numbers 14/25 and 16/25). This led police to uncover the kingpin of the operation, Dorik Doji from Aalo, who allegedly disguised the trafficking network as an online gaming business.
Doji convinced Talom Mibang, a CSP operator in Pasighat, to facilitate drug payments via Google Pay and QR codes, all under the guise of gaming transactions. Mibang agreed to the arrangement in December 2024, initially receiving 50% of each transaction. After six months, he was promised a 30% share of the profits.
Once users made payments using the shared QR code, drugs were discreetly placed at specific locations for pickup. The traffickers used WhatsApp calls to direct users to these locations, ensuring there was no direct contact with Doji.
To avoid detection, Doji frequently changed his phone numbers and utilized CSPs in both Pasighat and Aalo to move drug money. He even personally collected funds from the Pasighat CSP on some occasions.
The operation, which included digital forensics, bank records, and technical surveillance, led to the arrest of Talom Mibang in Pasighat. He was followed by the arrest of Dorik Doji in Aalo.
Seized Items include:
Rs 78,000 in cash
A bank account containing over Rs 2 lakh
Several SIM cards
Multiple mobile phones
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities anticipate further recoveries in the coming days. A total of eight individuals have been arrested so far in connection with the case.
The operation is being led by SI Lakhi Mena, Officer-in-Charge of Aalo Police Station, under the supervision of SP West Siang, Kardak Riba.
