Dorian Beu Remains in Prison Over Narcotics, Criminal Group Charges

Court denies leniency; ongoing Albanian-Italian investigation

by Amelia Crawford

The Special Court has upheld the decision to keep Dorian Beu in prison following his arrest two days ago on Mount Tomorri. The 46-year-old is accused of “production and sale of narcotics” and “participation in a structured criminal group.” He was wanted since March 2023, with a security measure imposed in absentia.

During the hearing, Beu, through his lawyer Andi Hasanaj, requested a more lenient security measure, citing an ongoing investigation for similar offenses in Italy. Beu was arrested in Italy in October 2023 and initially placed under house arrest. However, by December 2023, the Italian justice system allowed him to remain free while the investigations continued.

The case against Beu and other suspected members of the criminal group is part of a joint Albanian-Italian investigative effort, focusing on narcotics trafficking and organized crime. The court’s decision to maintain the prison arrest reflects the gravity of the charges and ongoing international cooperation to dismantle criminal networks.
