Baltimore County, MD — A former building service worker at Overlea High School has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of fourth-degree sex offenses involving a 17-year-old student, police confirmed.
Donovan Michaud, 30, was taken into custody and initially held without bond at the Baltimore County Detention Center. According to charging documents, the student reported that she and Michaud exchanged explicit photos and engaged in sexual activity in a classroom after school hours.
A social worker, assigned to assist in the investigation, was granted permission by the student’s mother to review the teen’s laptop. Authorities discovered extensive conversations between Michaud and the student on the Discord app. A detective later obtained a warrant to retrieve the full chat history from the student’s account.
Police allege Michaud acknowledged the inappropriate relationship during an interview, saying he met the student while cleaning the school. He admitted to feeling that he had abused his authority and confessed to asking the student to delete their communications and to avoid getting him in trouble.
Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS) confirmed Michaud was placed on administrative leave and barred from all school properties. A letter sent by Overlea High School Principal Monica Sample stated, “These charges are disturbing and a direct violation of our policies and core values.” She added that support staff will be available for students and faculty affected by the incident.
Michaud had worked at BCPS since 2019 and transferred to Overlea High in November 2021 after prior roles at Stemmers Run and Perry Hall middle schools.
