LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) — A Louisville father has been arrested after allegedly taking his 8-year-old son to a drug deal and instructing him to use cocaine, which led to the child’s hospitalization for a drug overdose.
Donnie Smith, 35, is accused of bringing his son along to a drug transaction. According to court documents, after acquiring the drugs, Smith reportedly told his son to try them.
Soon after ingestion, the child began acting erratically, reportedly walking into walls and becoming non-verbal once they returned home.
The boy was rushed to Norton Children’s Hospital, where medical staff confirmed a drug overdose. Toxicology results showed the presence of cocaine, amphetamines, and benzodiazepines in the child’s system.
Smith was taken into custody by Louisville Metro Police and is expected to face multiple charges, including child endangerment and drug-related offenses.
The investigation is ongoing, and the condition of the child has not been publicly updated.
