CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. — A third Broward County high school basketball coach has been arrested for allegedly renting out school gyms for personal profit.
Donald Calloway, 49, assistant girls’ basketball coach at Coral Springs High School, faces charges of organized scheme to defraud $10,000 or more and grand theft between $10,000 and $20,000, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Investigators determined Calloway rented the school’s gym to outside basketball associations for “illicit tournaments” and arranged payments through fellow coach Brenton Hankerson. Records show Calloway received approximately $2,800, with the school’s potential revenue loss totaling $11,805.
This arrest follows similar charges against two other coaches, Henry Lewis McNabb and Brenton Hankerson, who allegedly held unauthorized tournaments at other district schools and received thousands in payments.
Broward District Schools Police said the arrests are part of an ongoing investigation into the improper use of district facilities for personal gain. “This reaffirms the superintendent’s commitment to transparency and rooting out public corruption,” said district spokesman John Sullivan.
All involved employees may face termination in line with district policy.
