Davenport, Iowa — A Davenport man has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder following the death of a woman in a domestic assault on Saturday night, September 27.
According to the Davenport Police Department, officers and first responders were called around 8:25 p.m. to a residence in the 3800 block of West Locust Street after reports of a woman bleeding from the head. When they arrived, they found the victim outside the home with life-threatening injuries. She was transported to a nearby hospital, where she later died.
The victim has been identified as 49-year-old Tammy Brentise of Davenport.
Investigators say 41-year-old Donald Brentise Jr. was taken into custody at the scene. A criminal complaint states that during a post-Miranda interview, Brentise admitted to striking the victim three times in the head with a hammer.
Brentise is now facing multiple charges, including first-degree murder, going armed with intent, and interference with official acts involving a weapon.
The case remains under investigation, and police have not released additional details.
