QUEENS, N.Y. — A Queens man was arrested Monday after allegedly stealing a vehicle and kidnapping a 72-year-old man who was sitting in the backseat, police said.

Authorities said the victim was waiting inside an idling 2016 Subaru near 44th Drive and 23rd Street in Long Island City around 7:13 p.m. on Jan. 17 when the suspect entered the driver’s seat and drove away.

The car, along with the unwilling passenger, was abandoned a short time later about two miles away in Maspeth, according to law enforcement. The victim was not reported to be seriously injured.

Police arrested Dominic Kanin, 30, approximately two weeks later after the NYPD released MTA surveillance footage of a suspect in the case. Kanin, who lives in the Cambria Heights section of Queens, has no prior criminal history, police said.

Kanin has been charged with grand larceny, kidnapping, unauthorized use of a vehicle, and unlawful imprisonment. The investigation remains ongoing.
