Tambaram police have arrested Lakshmi, a 50-year-old domestic maid, for allegedly stealing gold ornaments and cash from her employer’s residence. The arrest came after authorities traced the habitual offender using her Aadhaar details.
The victim, 71-year-old Sukumar of Pillaiyar Koil Street, had hired Lakshmi through a domestic staffing mobile app on November 14 to assist with household chores. Following her absence after December 15 and unanswered calls, Sukumar discovered that 13 sovereigns of gold jewelry and Rs50,000 in cash were missing.
After a thorough investigation, police located Lakshmi in Palavedu, arrested her, and recovered the stolen items. Authorities have confirmed that she had a history of similar offenses.
