A domestic helper, Ranjala Nazre, is suspected of stealing gold jewellery worth Rs4 lakh from the residence of a sitting BMC corporator in Vasai West. The Manikpur Police have registered a case and are actively searching for Nazre, who is currently absconding.
The theft came to light on the morning of July 25, 2025, when BMC corporator Jaya Shyam Pendhari, aged 59, was preparing to deposit her jewellery in her Axis Bank locker. Upon opening her cupboard, she noticed several valuable gold ornaments missing.
According to the FIR, the only other person with access to the house was the domestic helper, Ranjala Nazre, originally from Morigaon, Assam. Pendhari suspects her maid of the theft.
The stolen items include a gold necklace valued at Rs1,25,000, a gold chain worth Rs1,00,000, a gold bracelet of Rs50,000, a mangalsutra worth Rs75,000, and other jewellery worth Rs50,000, making the total loss Rs4,00,000.
A case has been registered under Sections 305 and 306 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Police continue their efforts to locate and apprehend the accused.
