QUEENS, N.Y. – A 25-year-old Ecuadorian woman, Domenica Rivera Mendieta, was arrested last Thursday in Queens after allegedly stealing more than $1,500 worth of merchandise from a Victoria’s Secret store in Long Island.
According to authorities, Rivera Mendieta and an unidentified accomplice stole $1,551 in merchandise from the Victoria’s Secret location in Oceanside on January 4. Police say the suspects concealed the stolen items in a shopping bag before leaving the store without paying.
Arrest and Charges
Nearly three months after the incident, both women were arrested and charged with grand larceny. Additionally, one of them—who had a baby with her at the time—faces an endangering the welfare of a minor charge.
Rivera Mendieta and her accomplice are scheduled to appear in court on April 11.
Immigration Warrant
During the investigation, authorities discovered that Rivera Mendieta had an outstanding arrest warrant from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Nassau County Police confirmed her Ecuadorian nationality but have not disclosed her current detention status.
This arrest follows a series of recent high-profile cases, including Jorge J. Ramos, a 55-year-old man arrested last month on sex trafficking charges in Long Island by ICE.
Authorities emphasize that all charges remain allegations, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
