Four youths, including the grandson of a DMK councillor, have been arrested in Tamil Nadu following the death of 19-year-old college student Nithin Sai, which police say resulted from a violent dispute over a love triangle.

The accused are S Chandru (19), the DMK councillor’s grandson from KK Nagar; V Yashwin (18), also from KK Nagar; J Aaron Sam (21) from Puzhal; and Adiyan (19). The clash reportedly stemmed from a romantic rivalry involving a girl and two groups of students.

According to police, the girl approached Pranav, a friend of Chandru, complaining about Venkatesan’s persistent advances. When Pranav confronted Venkatesan, tensions escalated, and Chandru was asked to intervene. On the day of the incident, the accused reportedly chased Venkatesan, who escaped, but during the pursuit, the Range Rover carrying the accused hit the bike carrying Nithin Sai and Abhishek. Nithin suffered fatal head injuries and died on the spot, while Abhishek was injured.

Chandru was inside the vehicle during the collision. Police have registered a murder case and arrested all four suspects, with investigations ongoing to clarify their roles.

Nithin’s family has accused the police of delaying the FIR and withholding CCTV footage due to the accused family’s political influence. They protested outside Thirumangalam police station demanding justice.

DMK MLA Ezhilan Naganathan assured that Chief Minister MK Stalin is taking the matter seriously, promising swift action and a Home Department review.
