In a major development, Kannan, a cadre of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), along with Corporation bill collector Senthilpandi, have been arrested in connection with the Madurai Corporation property tax scam.
Kannan, who is closely associated with the ruling party, was interrogated on Saturday by the Special Investigation Team led by Madurai Range Deputy Inspector General of Police Abhinav Kumar. Kannan’s wife, K. Vijayalakshmi, who serves as the Chairperson for the Standing Committee on Taxation and Finance, was also questioned during the probe.
Following the interrogation, Kannan was taken into custody for his alleged involvement in the property tax scam, which has raised serious concerns about corruption in municipal tax collection.
