Diyun Police Arrest Two for Possession of Narcotics in Changlang

Vigilant villagers aid capture of suspected drug users

Diyun Police in Arunachal Pradesh arrested two suspected drug users following a tip-off from vigilant villagers. The arrests took place in Upper Mudoidweep, Diyun Circle, Changlang district, where officers seized 361 grams of liquid opium and various psychotropic tablets, including Buprenorphine and Naloxone.

The suspects, identified as 40-year-old Duleya Chakma of Udoipur-III and 45-year-old Hriba Sindu Chakma of Upper Mudoidweep, were apprehended after a prompt police response led by Inspector Ongsa Ronrang and his team. The operation, conducted under the supervision of Dy.SP Paul Jerang and SDPO Miao, included a search in the presence of Assistant Commissioner Abraham Modi, who acted as Executive Magistrate.

Along with narcotics, the police recovered prescription slips and Rs14,700 in cash. Initial investigations indicate the accused were habitual drug users, possibly misusing prescription medications.

A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and the suspects remain in custody. Police officials commended the proactive role of the local community in reporting suspicious activity, reaffirming their commitment to combating drug abuse through cooperation and vigilance.
