Dispur Police busted a major vehicle theft racket operating in Guwahati, Assam, on Sunday, arresting eight individuals in connection with the theft of a truck belonging to a Mangaldoi-based businessman.

The stolen truck, registration number AS13AC5614, belonged to Ajay Barman and was reportedly stolen from Dispur. Following Barman’s complaint, police launched an investigation that led to the arrest of the suspects.

The arrested individuals were identified as Mohammad Rashidul Alam, Noor Hussain, Moidul Islam, Ainul Haque, Nazrul Islam, Pankaj Yadav, Sanjeev Kumar, and Ranbir Arora. Sanjeev and Ranbir, both from Haryana, allegedly collaborated with local thieves from Guwahati, Hajo, and Nalbari to steal the truck.

Police recovered the stolen vehicle from the 13-mile area in Byrnihat, Meghalaya, and noted that the thieves had also used a recovery van during the operation. Authorities are investigating whether the racket is linked to other vehicle thefts in Assam and neighbouring states.
