In a major crackdown on employment fraud, Mangaluru Police arrested two men from Maharashtra for allegedly cheating over 200 job aspirants out of Rs1.82 crore by falsely promising them job visas.
According to the police, the accused — Dishad Abdul Sattar Khan (45) of Navi Mumbai, and Sahukari Kishore Kumar alias Anil Patel (34) of Dombivli, Thane — were apprehended by Central Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths in connection with the large-scale scam.
The duo allegedly ran a fake recruitment operation, convincing victims of overseas job placements, collecting lakhs in processing and visa fees, only to disappear with the money.
Police said most victims were local youth from Mangaluru, desperate for employment abroad. Investigators suspect the scam has been active for several months, targeting vulnerable candidates through advertisements and word-of-mouth.
A case has been registered and further investigation is ongoing to trace other accomplices and recover the swindled funds.
