In a major breakthrough, Bhubaneswar Police have busted a two-wheeler theft syndicate that had been targeting various areas across the city. Officers from Mancheswar Police Station arrested two habitual offenders, Dipu alias Trilochan Samantaray (26) and Malo alias Chiranjib Sethi (26), both residents of Rajnagar in Kendrapara district.
The case originated from a complaint lodged on May 29, 2025, by Anil Kumar Swain, who reported the theft of his Honda Activa from Mangala Temple Lane, Nua Sahi, Rasulgarh. Based on CCTV evidence, Dipu was identified and later arrested with the assistance of local police in Rajnagar.
During interrogation, Dipu confessed to stealing the scooter using a master key and revealed the involvement of his associate, Malo, who was buying the stolen vehicles and reselling them.
A follow-up raid led to Malo’s arrest and the recovery of five stolen two-wheelers from their homes and a service center. The recovered vehicles include:
TVS Apache RTR 160
Pulsar NS 125
Bullet 350 ES EFI
Honda Activa 6G
Yamaha FZS
Police revealed that Dipu is a repeat offender with 12 cases against him in various police stations, while Malo is involved in three cases in Mancheswar and Chandrasekharpur.
Both have been produced in court. The investigation is ongoing to recover more vehicles and trace other accomplices linked to the racket.
