WILMINGTON, DE — Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the 2019 murder of James Pinkett in Wilmington, Delaware, as well as multiple other shooting incidents, officials announced.

On December 28, 2019, Wilmington police responded to a shooting on the 1300 block of East 29th Street, where they found 67-year-old James Pinkett, who later died from his injuries. Detective Mackenzie Kirlin initially handled the case, and it was later taken over by the Cold Case Unit for further investigation.

After an extensive inquiry, 22-year-olds Dion Young and Ameer Dunn were identified as suspects in the cold case. Authorities also allege that Young was involved in two other violent incidents. On December 24, 2019, a shooting on New Castle Avenue left a 20-year-old male injured. Two days later, on December 26, a shots-fired incident occurred on East 9th Street, though no injuries were reported. These cases were handled by Detective Brendan Wham.

On December 16, 2024, a grand jury returned indictments for both Young and Dunn. Young, who is currently incarcerated on unrelated charges, faces 34 offenses, including first-degree murder, attempted murder, and firearm possession. He is being held on $1.5 million cash-only bail.

Dunn was apprehended in Houston, Texas, and extradited to Delaware on January 23, 2025. He faces 19 charges, including first-degree murder and attempted murder, and is held on $866,000 cash-only bail.

Both men are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
