In a swift action following a murder in Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia district, police arrested four accused, including two who sustained bullet injuries during an encounter with the Special Operations Group (SOG).
According to Ballia ASP (North) Dinesh Kumar Shukla, 40-year-old Satya Prakash was stabbed to death at a country liquor shop in the Sawra area under Rasra police station limits on Saturday afternoon. Acting on the information, police launched an extensive checking drive across the district.
During the operation on Nawapur Mahatwar Road around 2.20 am on Sunday, two motorcycle-borne suspects attempted to flee after allegedly opening fire on the police. In retaliatory action, Sundaram Singh and Raja Singh suffered bullet injuries to their legs and were arrested.
Two other accused, identified as Anuj Singh and Ajay Kharwar of Mau, were also taken into custody. Police recovered three country-made pistols and cartridges from the accused.
The murder reportedly stemmed from a dispute at the liquor shop. Following the incident, enraged family members and villagers blocked the Ballia-Azamgarh road for over two hours before police restored normalcy. Further investigation is underway.
