In a significant crackdown, Phulbani Town Police dismantled a high-profile bike theft racket under the leadership of SP Harish Bishi and direct supervision of SDPO Shubhrajeet Bishwal. The operation, executed on Thursday, resulted in the recovery of nine premium motorcycles and the arrest of four individuals, including the alleged mastermind.
The breakthrough came after a theft complaint was filed by Swarna Behera, whose Yamaha R15 was stolen from near her home in Jiringipada on June 18. She submitted CCTV footage as evidence and warned of legal consequences if action was delayed.
Acting swiftly on the leads, a team led by IIC P. Swaroop Kishan conducted coordinated raids across multiple locations. The operation led to the seizure of eight Yamaha R15 bikes and one Pulsar 200cc—all stolen and traced to multiple FIRs across regions including Bhubaneswar, Kharvel Nagar, Laxmisagar, Infocity, Chandrasekharpur, Bharatpur, and Maitree Vihar.
The arrested suspects were identified as:
Dillip Kanhar of Tikabali (alleged mastermind)
Bikash Kanhar of Bahada Padar
Rudra Madhab Bagarti of Koti Maha
Chandan Digal of Talapada
Police believe the group may be part of a larger network and have launched deeper investigations to uncover additional connections and recover more stolen vehicles.
