In a shocking case of workplace violence, a 25-year-old supervisor was arrested by Birmitrapur police in Odisha’s Sundargarh district for allegedly killing a colleague during a dispute over dinner.
The accused, Dibyanshu Pandey, a native of Sasaram, Bihar, reportedly attacked Nanhe Sharma (47), a welder at the same unit, with an iron pipe following an argument over cooking arrangements on July 5. Both men were staying at a now non-operational crusher unit in Lase, Birmitrapur, where they worked.
According to Inspector In-Charge R.P. Nag, the altercation occurred around 8:30 PM during the Bahuda Yatra. A heated argument broke out, escalating into violence. Pandey struck Sharma on the head with an iron pipe, causing serious injuries to both individuals during the scuffle.
Swatantra Dubey, the crusher unit’s owner, found them injured when they failed to respond to his calls and rushed both for medical attention. While Sharma returned home to Bisra after initial treatment, his condition worsened and he died on July 8 at the Bisra Community Health Centre.
Following the confirmation of the death and investigation into the events, Dibyanshu Pandey was arrested and charged with murder.
