CHICAGO, IL — A 26-year-old woman was fatally shot during a dispute Sunday evening on Chicago’s Far South Side, and police have made an arrest in connection with the case.
The deadly incident occurred around 7:28 p.m. in the 13200 block of South Ellis Avenue, where the victim was engaged in a verbal altercation with a known offender. According to Chicago police, the dispute escalated when the offender drew a handgun and fired, striking the woman in the chest.
She was rushed to the University of Chicago Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
On September 1, police arrested Diamond Steward, 31, in the 700 block of East 111th Street. She has been charged with one felony count of first-degree murder.
Authorities have not yet released the name of the victim. The motive behind the altercation remains under investigation.
