A domestic worker, Dhruv, was arrested for allegedly stealing Rs 40 lakh from a home in West Delhi’s Punjabi Bagh, police said. Employed to care for his employer’s daughter, Dhruv had worked in the house for just 15 days before the theft occurred.
The incident was reported on November 29, and an FIR was registered the following day under relevant sections of the law. During investigations, CCTV footage from the residence and surrounding areas was analyzed. Initial clips showed Dhruv leaving the house empty-handed, a senior police official noted.
Further examination of nearby cameras revealed Dhruv with his associates, Jatin and Shivam. One video showed Shivam carrying a black bag. The trio’s mobile phones were soon switched off, and despite multiple raids in Delhi, the suspects initially evaded capture.
Technical surveillance and call detail record analysis later revealed that the accused had traveled outside Delhi, eventually being traced to Jammu and Kashmir. Continuous efforts led to Dhruv and Jatin surrendering to the court.
Interrogation uncovered that the trio regularly used the same travel agency for inter-state trips. Shivam had booked a cab to Himachal Pradesh, allowing police to trace his location through the driver. Shivam was apprehended at a hotel in Himachal Pradesh, and Rs 36.05 lakh in cash was recovered, along with branded shoes and clothes purchased with the stolen money.
All recovered items were seized, and the accused were remanded to judicial custody. Investigations continue to recover the remaining amount and explore any further involvement, police said.
