Rural police in the district have arrested the third suspect, Sukhpreet Singh ‘Sukh’, in connection with the murder of Manjit Singh in Dhoolka village. The arrest followed a brief encounter on Tuesday, during which Sukh allegedly opened fire on police and was subsequently shot when officers returned fire.
Sukh, a resident of Ugana village, Patiala district, was injured in the encounter but is reported to be in stable condition. Police recovered a 9 mm pistol and three rounds of ammunition from him.
The murder occurred on November 16, when two unidentified shooters entered Manjit Singh’s shop at Dhoolka village and shot him. A case was registered at Khalchian police station.
Authorities confirmed that the investigation has now led to the apprehension of all major suspects:
Raja Singh ‘Billa’, the main accused, was killed in an earlier encounter.
Manpreet Singh ‘Shammi’, an accomplice, had been arrested previously.
Sukhpreet Singh ‘Sukh’ was apprehended following the encounter near Jethuwal Canal after police received intelligence that he was planning a new crime.
