The Dharwad police arrested Abhishek, an employee of a courier company, on Wednesday for illegally carrying 1 kg of gold and 1.5 kg of silver on a private bus. The arrest took place near SDM Hospital in Dharwad, following a tip-off.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law & Order) Mahaning Nandagavi confirmed that the gold was being transported from Bombay to Hubballi without a proper GST bill, a serious violation of tax regulations. The City Crime Branch (CCB) and Vidyagiri police station officers were involved in the operation that led to the arrest of Abhishek.
During his detention and interrogation, police were able to gather crucial information that may lead to uncovering a larger illegal transport network. A case has been registered at Vidyagiri police station, and further investigation is underway to trace the origins and destinations of the contraband.
