by Ananya Mehta

Police and a SWAT team successfully arrested Dharmendra Yadav, a cattle smuggler with a Rs50,000 bounty, following an intense encounter in Bidhuna, Auraiya. Yadav was shot in the leg during the police counter-action and admitted to the Community Health Centre (CHC) with stable condition.

Previously, police had arrested 16 of his accomplices, some from Rajasthan, in connection with a cattle smuggling case after a trailer overturned on September 5 near Bidhuna, killing 14 cattle. While most accused were in custody, Yadav remained absconding until Monday when he was apprehended in Shikohabad.

During interrogation, Yadav revealed information about hidden money linked to the smuggling operations. Acting on his tip, police and SWAT teams recovered a bag of cash hidden in the bushes near Dariyapur turn.

However, the arrest was not without violence. When taken forward by police, Yadav suddenly pulled out a pistol hidden in the bushes and fired. Police responded swiftly, injuring him in the leg before taking him into custody.

SP Abhijit R Shankar confirmed the arrest and the bounty on Yadav. The accused is currently under medical care, and the investigation into the smuggling network continues.
