After evading arrest for nearly 16 years, a couple accused in a murder case from Maharashtra’s Palghar district has been apprehended in Madhya Pradesh, police confirmed on Friday.
The accused have been identified as Dharmendra Ramashankar Soni (54) and his wife Kiran Dharmendra Soni (50). The duo was arrested from Mhow village in Indore district by the Crime Branch Cell-3 of the Mira-Bhayandar, Vasai-Virar police.
According to investigators, the case relates to the murder of a real estate agent in April 2009 at Nalasopara East, allegedly triggered by a dispute over brokerage money. While one accused in the case was arrested earlier, the Sonis had remained on the run for over a decade.
Following sustained efforts and fresh intelligence, police tracked their location and successfully took them into custody. A local court has remanded both accused to police custody until December 22. Authorities said efforts are ongoing to trace and arrest the fourth accused, who is still absconding.
