The Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police have arrested Dharmender Kumar alias Rohan, 30, from Uttar Pradesh, for his involvement in a nationwide job scam. Kumar was operating a call centre in Delhi and has been linked to five different cases across India.
The fraud unfolded when a victim, after registering for a job, received a call offering a position at the OPTUM company’s Hyderabad branch. Kumar, posing as an official, convinced the victim to pay money for processing the job application. Trusting the scam, the victim transferred a total of Rs 15,88,347 across several bank accounts provided by the fraudster.
However, as the scammer requested additional payments, the victim realized they had been deceived and reported the matter. The police, who seized three mobile phones and three laptops from Kumar’s possession, stated that these scammers target victims through fake job listings on popular job portals and social media platforms. The fraudsters frequently ask victims for personal information, including bank account details, Aadhaar cards, and passports.
Cyber Crime Police urge the public to be cautious and avoid responding to unsolicited offers, particularly when money is requested upfront for job processing or placement.
