The Dewas police have arrested five individuals involved in a cryptocurrency fraud worth Rs 1.04 lakh and recovered the money along with six mobile phones, bringing the total seized evidence to Rs 2.33 lakh.
The case came to light when Chetansingh Solanki (45), a resident of Ismail Khedi village in Sehore district, filed a complaint on December 6. Solanki alleged that between November 2 and 5, unknown persons contacted him via WhatsApp, promising large profits through cryptocurrency investments and defrauding him in instalments totaling Rs 1.04 lakh.
Acting swiftly, Industrial Area Inspector Shashikant Chaurasiya formed a special investigation team. The team analyzed technical evidence, traced the digital trail, and identified the accused within 13 days. Bank accounts used for the transactions were frozen based on the data recovered.
The accused, who confessed during interrogation, reportedly hid their identities and lured the complainant with promises of high returns from cryptocurrency investments. They were presented in court, which granted police remand.
The arrested individuals are:
Bablu Makwana alias Ajay (30) – Dhablaveni village, residing in Tirupati Platinum Colony, Nanakheda, Ujjain
Lakhan Panwar (32) – Malikhedi village, residing at Premnagar, Maksi Road, Ujjain
Rahul Tomar (30) – Peerjhalar village, residing at Vivekanand Colony, Ujjain
Areeb Ali Khan alias Ali (22) – Parwana Nagar, Ujjain
Alwaheed Khan alias Rumi (27) – Parwana Nagar, Ujjain
During the operation, police seized Rs 1.04 lakh in defrauded money and six Android mobile phones worth approximately Rs 1.29 lakh.
