Devin Schillinger, 70, Charged with Murder in Rockwood

Victim Michael Kerley Found Dead After Sunday Shooting

ROCKWOOD, Tenn. — A 70-year-old man has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder following a deadly shooting Sunday night in Cumberland County.

According to a statement from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), agents were called in to assist the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office after a fatal shooting occurred on George Anna Drive in Rockwood on the night of Sunday, July 7.

Deputies who responded to the scene found Michael Kerley, 36, suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite receiving medical attention, Kerley was pronounced dead at the scene.

TBI investigators quickly identified Devin Schillinger, 70, as the suspect in the shooting. He was taken into custody that same night and charged with first-degree murder.

Schillinger was booked into the Cumberland County Jail, where he is being held on a $1 million bond.

Authorities have not yet released a motive or further details surrounding the incident. The investigation remains ongoing.
