CORALVILLE, IOWA (IOWA’S NEWS NOW) — A Cedar Rapids man, 26-year-old Devin Cariens Hook, was arrested after deputies say he endangered his young daughter while intoxicated near Coralville Reservoir on Sunday evening.
According to court records, the incident occurred just before 7 p.m. when Hook got into an altercation with multiple people, including the mother of his 4-year-old daughter. Deputies were alerted after reports that Hook was seen holding his daughter over the edge of a floating dock.
The girl’s mother, who was not present at the time, told police that Hook admitted over the phone he feared he might accidentally drop the child into the water.
When law enforcement arrived, they noted signs of intoxication on Hook, including slurred speech and glassy eyes. Though he refused a formal breath test, a portable sensor indicated a blood alcohol level of .129.
Hook was taken into custody and charged with public intoxication and child endangerment.
