TAMPA, Fla. — A human trafficking investigation led to the arrest of 38-year-old Deune Dukes on April 1 after a series of undercover operations uncovered disturbing details of abuse and exploitation.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) reported that Dukes was arrested during an operation where he was caught on video opening the door with a blanket covering his body. Investigators found that Dukes had coerced two women into performing sexual acts in exchange for drugs. The victims showed visible signs of abuse, with bruising believed to have been inflicted by Dukes himself.

“Human trafficking is one of the most heinous crimes we confront,” stated Sheriff Chad Chronister. “These survivors endured unimaginable trauma. Our top priority is protecting the vulnerable and ensuring predators like Dukes are held accountable.”

Authorities have identified a potential third victim and a fourth woman whom Dukes was allegedly grooming but had not yet forced into sexual acts at the time of his arrest. A search of Dukes’ residence led to the discovery of methamphetamine, cocaine (both powder and crack), MDMA, and suboxone patches.

Dukes, who had outstanding warrants for resisting arrest and retail theft, now faces multiple charges, including coercion for commercial sex acts, deriving support from proceeds of prostitution, trafficking in amphetamines, and drug possession.

The victims are receiving support from the non-profit organization Selah Freedom as they begin their recovery process. Authorities are urging anyone with information about human trafficking or in need of assistance to contact the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office at (813) 247-8200.
