Detroit Men Arrested in Massive Vehicle Theft Ring

David Franklin, Barron Hatcher charged in SUV theft scheme

Detroit, MI — Authorities have arrested two men believed to be behind a large vehicle theft ring in southeast Michigan, involving more than 25 stolen Dodge Durango SUVs.

The investigation into the thefts began in November 2024, and the suspects were identified as 41-year-old David Franklin and 24-year-old Barron Hatcher Jr. Franklin was arrested in Houston, Texas, on January 31 and extradited to Michigan, while Hatcher was taken into custody on January 30 in Farmington Hills.

Both men have been charged with conducting a criminal enterprise and possession of burglary tools. Franklin’s bond has been set at $1 million, while Hatcher’s bond is $500,000. They both remain in custody at the Macomb County Jail.
