GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A 30-year-old man, Deshun Lewis, has been charged with open murder and felony firearm in connection to a June 13 homicide that claimed the life of Semaj James, also 30.
The Grand Rapids Police Department responded to a call around 1 a.m. on Cass Avenue Southeast, where they found James deceased inside a residence. An autopsy conducted by the Kent County Medical Examiner confirmed the cause of death as homicide.
“This arrest marks progress in our commitment to justice,” said GRPD Chief Eric Winstrom. “I know his loss will always be deeply felt, but I hope this arrest brings Semaj’s loved ones answers to provide some measure of healing.”
Lewis is currently being held at the Kent County Correctional Facility, according to officials.
