A Wilmington man has been arrested and charged with drug trafficking following a traffic stop conducted by the Wilmington Police Department (WPD) on September 19.
At approximately 4:25 p.m., officers initiated the stop in the 4300 block of Market Street after observing a driver operating a vehicle without a valid license.
Upon approaching the vehicle, officers detected the odor of marijuana, prompting a search of the car. Inside, they discovered marijuana, plastic baggies, and a digital scale, according to WPD.
The driver, later identified as 28-year-old Deshon Rucker, was searched as well. Officers found 27 small packages of fentanyl, nine oxycodone tablets, and multiple pressed fentanyl tablets on his person.
Rucker was arrested and charged with:
Trafficking opium or heroin
Possession with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver a Schedule II controlled substance
Possession of a controlled substance in a jail
Possession of marijuana up to ½ oz
Possession of drug paraphernalia
Possession of marijuana paraphernalia
No operator’s license
Resist/delay/obstruct public officers
He was transported to the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center, where he is currently being held under a $525,000 secured bond.
The investigation is ongoing.
