The Dera Bassi police have arrested a three-member gang of snatchers and recovered 10 stolen bikes and five mobile phones from them, officials said.
The operation follows a complaint lodged on October 11 by Aditya Kumar, a resident of Pandwala originally from Manakpur, UP, whose bike was stolen near a liquor vend during the daytime.
During a police naka at Focal Point, Mubarikpur, authorities apprehended Jasveer Singh, alias Tinku, a resident of Daadpura, Dera Bassi, riding a bike with a fake registration number. His interrogation led to the arrest of Gaurav Kumar and Shubham Pandey, both residents of Dadpura and Mahiwala, respectively.
Investigations revealed that the three accused had formed a gang that stole bikes and snatched mobile phones. Two additional stolen bikes were recovered near ESIC hospital, Mubarikpur, while disclosures by Gaurav and Shubham led to the recovery of seven more stolen bikes.
Police said the gang mastermind, Gaurav, would steal bikes, change their registration plates, and then use them to snatch mobile phones.
Dera Bassi DSP Bikramjeet Singh Brar stated, “The suspects were attempting to forge vehicle registration documents but failed. They have been remanded in police custody, and further investigation is ongoing.”
