GREAT MILLS, Md. – Deputies with the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, working in coordination with the U.S. Marshals Service, have arrested Dequan Marquis Spicer, 24, of Great Mills, for his alleged role in a May 3, 2025, shooting that injured three people.
The incident unfolded in the early morning hours when deputies on proactive patrol heard gunfire near Chancellors Run Road and Pegg Road. Responding swiftly, they discovered a vehicle containing four men — three of whom had been shot. The fourth individual was not injured.
Detectives quickly launched an investigation and determined that the shooting was connected to an altercation the previous evening. The first wave of arrests followed shortly after:
Cameron David Louis Curtis, 22, of Valley Lee
Peyton James Robert Curtis, 20, of Callaway
Jayshawn Maurice Bartless, 21, of Lexington Park
All three remain incarcerated at the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center awaiting trial.
Further investigation led authorities to identify Dequan Spicer as a fourth suspect involved in the shooting. Spicer was apprehended in North Carolina and extradited to Maryland on July 3, 2025.
On August 13, 2025, Spicer was officially served with an indictment warrant listing multiple serious charges, including:
Four counts of attempted first-degree murder
Four counts of attempted second-degree murder
Four counts of first-degree assault
Four counts of second-degree assault
Possession of a loaded handgun on person
Handgun in vehicle
Loaded handgun in vehicle
Spicer is currently being held at the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center. The investigation remains ongoing.
