Deputy Nicholas Galbo Arrested Again, Faces Felony Assault Charge in Key West

Monroe County Deputy Accused of Knife Threats, Battery in Dating Violence Incident

KEY WEST, Fla. — A Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputy, Nicholas Galbo, 42, was arrested Wednesday on a felony charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and two misdemeanor battery charges stemming from a violent confrontation in Key West.

According to the Key West Police Department (KWPD), the incident involved Galbo, his romantic partner — a 30-year-old Florida Highway Patrol trooper — and two bystanders, a married couple. The altercation began near Simonton and Front Streets after Galbo and his girlfriend had reportedly been drinking while watching the Florida Panthers hockey game.

Witnesses told police they saw Galbo grabbing and pushing his girlfriend, yelling at her to “put her f—ing shoes on.” When the female bystander tried to assist the trooper, Galbo allegedly pushed and grabbed her, prompting her husband to intervene.

The situation escalated when Galbo’s badge fell to the ground, and the bystander picked it up. Galbo reportedly became enraged and chased the couple to their home, where he brandished a pocket knife, making “stabbing motions” toward them in their garage, police said. Both victims claimed they were “in fear for their life.”

Galbo’s girlfriend gave “very limited information” to officers, and while Galbo admitted to a physical altercation, he claimed mutual involvement. Police noted physical evidence, including torn watches from both men involved.

Galbo was taken into custody and held at the Key West jail, where he’s being detained on a $30,000 bond. He is scheduled for arraignment on July 3 in Monroe County court.

Sheriff Rick Ramsay announced plans to terminate Galbo’s employment pending a pre-termination hearing.

“I have notified Deputy Galbo that I intend to terminate his employment,” Ramsay said in a statement. “I am committed to keeping this community informed of significant events that occur in this agency, good and bad.”

This is not Galbo’s first brush with the law. Nearly ten years ago, on June 24, 2015, while serving as a Key West police officer, he was arrested on domestic violence charges after being accused of battering a former girlfriend. That case was dropped in 2016 after Galbo completed a pre-trial intervention program.
