FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — A Fresno County Sheriff’s Deputy, identified as 30-year-old Jaime Mendoza, has been placed on paid administrative leave after being arrested on domestic violence charges.
The Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Mendoza was booked into the Fresno County Jail on Monday following an investigation into an assault that occurred the previous week.
Authorities say the victim provided detailed information about the alleged assault, which led to Mendoza’s arrest.
In response to the incident, Sheriff John Zanoni issued a statement:
“It is disappointing to see one of our own accused of the same type of violent crime that he took an oath to combat. I want to ensure the public that we hold our employees accountable just as we do community members, who we contact and arrest for misconduct.”
Mendoza joined the sheriff’s department in 2016 and was assigned to patrol at the time of the alleged incident.
The investigation is ongoing.
