ST. HELENA PARISH, La. (WAFB) — A St. Helena Parish jail deputy is facing serious felony charges after allegedly smuggling prohibited items into the facility.
Gregory Goods, 56, who had worked at the jail since April 2024, is accused of bringing in cigarettes, illegal drugs, and prepaid cell phone cards for inmates.
Sheriff Clay Chutz confirmed that Goods was initially arrested in Livingston Parish and booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center as a fugitive from St. Helena. He was later transferred back to St. Helena Parish, where formal charges were filed.
The charges against Goods include:
1 count of malfeasance in office (felony)
5 counts of bringing contraband into a penal institution (felony)
2 counts of distribution/possession with intent to distribute Schedule I controlled substances (felony)
Sheriff Chutz noted that the investigation is still active, and additional charges may be filed as it progresses.
