Deputy Collector Arrested in Kovilpathu Land Scam

Investigation into Illegal Sale of Temple Land Expands

in the ongoing investigation into the Kovilpathu land scam, Deputy Collector G. Johnson, 59, was arrested on Friday, joining several others already detained in connection with the case. The scandal involves the alleged illegal sale of land belonging to the Sri Parvatheeswarar Swamy Temple, facilitated by forged documents.

The temple, which owns significant land holdings, had previously leased portions to various institutions, including Jipmer. Recent complaints prompted a thorough investigation, revealing that parts of the temple land had been sold illegally. Authorities are continuing to probe the extent of the scam and any further involvement of other parties.
