MACON, Ga. — Deon Banks, 33, will serve three consecutive life sentences for his role in a brutal home invasion in 2022 that ended in the murder of two men and the rape of a woman.
According to the Macon District Attorney’s Office, a jury on August 21 found Banks guilty of killing 61-year-old Milton Jolly and 41-year-old George Brooks during a violent home invasion on November 3, 2022, at a residence on the 3500 block of Morris Avenue.
Prosecutors say Banks broke into the home, held four people at gunpoint, and accused Jolly of stealing a firearm. He reportedly threatened to kill everyone in the house unless he was paid.
One of the surviving victims testified that Banks forced his way into her bedroom, assaulted Jolly, and then sexually assaulted her while making Jolly watch. When Jolly tried to escape, Banks chased him and shot him dead. He then returned and fatally shot Brooks.
Banks was arrested later that day on Riverside Drive, where police recovered a .380-caliber Hi-Point handgun matching shell casings from the crime scene, along with a .22-caliber pistol.
He was convicted of malice and felony murder, rape, aggravated sodomy, false imprisonment, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. The court sentenced him to three consecutive life sentences plus an additional five years.
District Attorney Anita Howard stated:
“This verdict reflects the overwhelming evidence of Deon Banks’ heinous crimes and the jury’s recognition of the terror he inflicted on innocent victims in their own home. While nothing can undo the trauma suffered by the survivors or bring back George Brooks and Milton Jolly, this conviction ensures that Banks will spend the rest of his life behind bars where he belongs.”
