BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. — Special agents with the South Carolina Department of Social Services (DSS), Office of Inspector General, have arrested a Beaufort County couple accused of fraudulently obtaining more than $20,000 in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.
According to arrest warrants, Dennis Lee Phillips Jr., 42, and Jennifer Nichole Phillips, 44, failed to report the wife’s income over multiple years on official SNAP documentation. This omission led to the unlawful issuance of $20,369 in food stamp benefits.
Both individuals were taken into custody and booked at the Beaufort County Detention Center. They face one felony count of fraudulent acquisition or use of food stamps totaling more than $10,000.
The 14th Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office will handle the prosecution.
