MERIDEN, Conn. — An East Haven woman will serve five years in prison for her role in a fatal crash that killed a state Department of Transportation worker.
Denise Lucibello pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter and driving under the influence in connection with the June 28, 2024 incident on Interstate 91 in Wallingford, where she struck and killed Andrew DiDomenico.
During sentencing at Meriden Superior Court, DiDomenico’s family shared emotional statements about their loss. His grandfather, Richard Gill, said, “The only thing Andrew did wrong that day was going to work. Work that he loved.” His sister, Vincenza DiDomenico, described losing her 26-year-old brother before he could build a life, family, and career.
Lucibello, visibly distraught, wept while addressing the court. Her attorneys read the remainder of her statement, in which she expressed remorse.
The judge sentenced Lucibello to 10 years in prison, with five years to serve and the remainder on probation. Conditions of her probation include a five-year driving ban and mandatory completion of mental health and substance abuse evaluations.
The judge acknowledged the tragedy of the case, noting that while Lucibello did not intend to kill anyone, she chose to drive while intoxicated, leading to devastating consequences for DiDomenico’s family.
