MILWAUKEE — Demetric Scott, 52, appeared in court Monday after being charged with writing threatening letters about President Trump and ICE agents to Milwaukee officials. Scott allegedly framed an undocumented man, Morales-Reyes, by using his name and address on the letters to mislead authorities.
The letters, sent on May 21, threatened to kill Trump and ICE agents, and were addressed to the Wisconsin Attorney General, Milwaukee police chief, and the Milwaukee ICE office. Although the letters appeared to be written by the same person, handwriting analysis showed the notes were not authored by Morales-Reyes, who speaks limited English and was arrested because his name was on the envelopes.
Investigators said Scott admitted to writing the letters himself, intending to prevent Morales-Reyes from testifying against him in a criminal trial related to a 2023 robbery. When asked about his motives, Scott said he acted for “freedom.”
Scott pleaded not guilty and has been bound over for trial. Prosecutors continue investigating the case.
