Delhi / Sikkim: The Special Cell of the Delhi Police has apprehended Tilak Prasad Sharma, 35, from East Pendam, Sikkim, in connection with a massive international narcotics smuggling case valued at Rs 13,000 crore, officials confirmed on Monday.

The case revolves around the seizure of 1,290 kg of cocaine and mephedrone and 40 kg of Thai marijuana, revealing the operations of an international drug cartel with links spanning Pakistan, the UK, Malaysia, Thailand, the UAE, and India.

Background of the Arrest

Sharma was wanted under an FIR registered in 2024 at Special Cell police station under provisions of the NDPS Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

After prior arrests of key cartel members in October 2024, Sharma altered his travel route—from Thailand to Sri Lanka, Nepal, and then India—to evade authorities.

Escape and Tracking

Sharma was apprehended by Nepal Customs with contraband but escaped from jail during unrest in Kathmandu.

He later went underground in Sikkim, frequently changing locations and concealing his identity.

Special Cell teams traced him to Namchi East, South Sikkim, where he was arrested with assistance from local police.

Sharma was produced before a local court and then a Delhi court on transit remand.

The syndicate’s mastermind, Virendra Basoya, is currently abroad.

Red Corner Notice issued against his son Rishabh Basoya, who is also outside India.

Police continue efforts to track and apprehend remaining absconding members.

This arrest marks a major breakthrough in international drug enforcement, demonstrating coordinated action between Delhi Police Special Cell and local authorities in Sikkim.
