Newborn Recovered Hours After Rohini Hospital Abduction

by Ananya Mehta

Delhi Police recovered a three-day-old baby boy kidnapped from a government hospital in Rohini and arrested two persons in connection with the case, officials said on Tuesday.

The infant was abducted from the labour room of Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital in Sector-6 on February 17. Police traced and rescued the child within hours of registering the case.

The North Rohini Police Station received a PCR call around 9 am reporting the kidnapping. The complaint was filed by the mother, a 30-year-old housewife, who had delivered the baby on February 14. She told police that an unknown woman, approximately 30 years old, had been visiting her during her hospital stay and had gained her trust.

On February 17, around 5 am, the woman allegedly took the newborn in her lap while asking the mother to rest. When the mother awoke around 8 am, both the woman and the baby were missing. Her husband, a labourer, immediately alerted the police.

An FIR was registered under Section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and multiple teams were deployed to trace the child. Hospital staff and security personnel were questioned, and CCTV footage was examined.

Using technical surveillance and human intelligence, the kidnapped baby was found on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway with two persons:

Rani (40-year-old woman, name changed)

Ahibaran Saxena (20-year-old man)

Both were arrested on the spot.

Police said investigations are continuing to determine the motive behind the kidnapping and whether others were involved. The newborn has been safely returned to the family.
