In a remarkable display of precision and teamwork, Delhi Police’s K-9 unit dog Amro helped officers recover 3.15 kilograms of charas worth approximately Rs 1.2 crore in two separate anti-narcotics operations, officials confirmed on Thursday.

Police said that four individuals, including a Himachal Pradesh couple, were arrested during the operations conducted near Mukandpur Chowk and Mukarba Chowk.

The first incident occurred on October 22, when a Delhi Police team intercepted a suspicious car after a brief chase. Despite an initial search yielding nothing, suspicions led officers to summon K-9 unit dog Amro. The trained sniffer dog detected a hidden cavity inside the vehicle, where officers found 2.06 kg of high-quality charas concealed in a specially crafted compartment.

The car occupants, identified as Chunni Lal from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, and his wife, were immediately arrested. During interrogation, Chunni Lal revealed that the drugs had been procured from Prakash Chand of Kullu, who was arrested on October 28.

Police further discovered that Chunni Lal had previously served a 10-year prison term in an NDPS case before returning to the illegal drug trade after his release in 2023.

In a separate operation on October 24, police arrested Yogesh Kolambekar, a resident of Mumbai, near Mukarba Chowk, recovering 1.09 kg of charas from his possession. Investigations revealed that he was transporting the contraband from Himachal Pradesh to Mumbai.

“During questioning, Kolambekar admitted that the charas was sourced from Nepalese cultivators operating in Kullu’s forest areas. It was meant to cater to the high festive demand in Delhi-NCR and Mumbai,” a senior officer said.

Police praised K-9 Amro’s crucial role in uncovering the hidden drugs, calling it a textbook example of human–canine collaboration in tackling narcotics trafficking.
